CHEMBARIKA - MANGALORE KHAZI THWAQA AHMED MOULAVI REVEALS PLANS OF SETTING UP ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY IN MANGALORE

Mangalore : Mangalore-chembirika Khazi Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar has floated a plan of establishing a full-fledged Islamic University within the 20 kms surroundings of Mangalore city and called upon like minded people and organization to support his causes.

Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, a Mangalore based online news-portal, he said that there is a need of establishing a huge Islamic institution in this part of India's west coast.

"We should bring up a younger generation of Islamic scholars well-equipped with modern tools of knowledge. An education is necessary to realize this long cherished dream", he said.

The khazi said that he has to take forward the vision of his predecessor Shaheed CM Abdulla Moulavi, who, in one of his letters had expressed the desire of establishing an Islamic institution similar to Darul Huda Islamic University (DHIU) situated on the banks of river kadalundi at Chemmad in Kerala.

DHIU is affiliated to world famous Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Jamia Millia University, New Delhi, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, and Moulana Abdul Kalam Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad. There are 19 co-institutions of Academy spread all over South India.

The Khazi said that DHIU, which started functioning in 1986, has a unique system of education where a student admitted to the institute after five years of primary education has to go for 12 years of education (2+4+4+2 Preliminary, Special Secondary, Degree, Master). After 12 years of education the student will come out as master of islamic studies and Arabic languages with good command over English and Urdu languages as well.

"We should take the responsibility of creating such an institution in this area upon our shoulders", the khazi said, adding that most of the Muslims living across the west coast of India including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, almost have a common culture and they deserve such a facility here.
